It’s been forever since I got around writing one of these! It’s been crazy busy around here since we’re 10 days away from the big move and there’s tons of excitement going on with Whimseybox too. Next week we’re shooing one last round of WhimseyboxTV videos with our videographer Zach so there’s lots of prep underway for that, plus I had a total craft fail this week and a very cute Ikea lamp paid the ultimate price. I’m going to see if I can figure out how to give that project another shot this weekend.

Hiya! Things in WhimseyboxHQ are getting crazy as I’m just back from CHA (photo recap here) and now we’re getting ready to pack up and head to Alt Summit in SLC! Bri, Rachel and I will be out there because Whimseybox is a sponsor of this awesome event. We’re hosting a dinner Wednesday night and then on Thursday we’ll have an awesome booth setup in the Venezia Lounge (I don’t know where that is either, but we’ll figure it out when we get there!) alongside other sponsors like Honest. So basically I’m going to be Jessica Alba’s best friend because, yeah, she’s going to be there too.
But that had better not distract people from our amazing setup (ha!) because we have a really awesome booth planned. So if you’re going to be at Alt you (yes, YOU!) have to stop by on Thursday. It’s a play on our Stop Pinning. Start Making. tagline that you’re going to want to see in person. Here’s a video we shot for WhimseyboxTV of one of our planning meetings. Fun challenge: figure out why no one mentioned that my hair is totally crazy while we were shooting that?!
Hope to see you there!
(my view. nice, but it’s colder here than I expected!)
What a whirlwind this week has been! It was full of web host problems (ugh), Quickbooks (triple ugh) and Alt prep (hooray!). Now I’m out in Anaheim for the Craft + Hobby tradeshow – can’t wait to see that great new creative stuff coming out this year! In the meantime, here’s what caught my eye this week –
– Incredible laser-cut wooden maps
– There’s no such thing as too many blankets + I want all of these
– I’ve been reading a lot of sci-fi lately, which is a totally new thing that just started over the holidays. But whether you’re into that or not, you’ll be amazed by this drone deliver service idea. (Seriously, I want this.)
– The DIY industrial furniture on Martha’s Crafts Dept. blog is awesome. Maybe for Whimseybox HQ someday?
– Spoonflower shared an awesome dresser DIY that I would have loved as a kid. (I was obsessed with the logic puzzles that were like ‘Alicia is shorter than Joe. Joe is taller that Molly. Mike’s favorite color is blue. etc).
– Love this beautiful designed beer reference, Beertone.
– Have you seen the latest WhimseyboxTV – DIY Geo Stamped Calendar!
Today I realized that haven’t written about WhimseyboxTV here since our 2nd video back in early November. I am finally-for-reals serious about sticking with this video thing + am fortunate to have found a great videographer in Houston. (If you’re looking, Zach is your guy.)
So this is a short video of Alyssa and I talking about our holiday craft memories. Even if you aren’t ordinarily into making or baking, lots of people get into it around this time of year. (It’s kind of like the wedding phemonemon – everyone loves crafting for their wedding!) And Zach actually had to cut out like 5 minutes of me going on and on about ornament making, baking ‘Baby Jesus Birthday Cakes’ (the only time of the year you could use as many sprinkles as you wanted when decorating!!) and lots of other memories.
And if you want to catch up on any WhimseyboxTV videos you’ve missed, you can find them all here. There’s a mix of tips, projects and behind-the-scenes.
PS – We had to cut out the funniest part of this video! After Alyssa finishes talking about the tiny furniture she says, with conviction, ‘It’s just more fun when everything’s tiny!‘ and we all burst out laughing. Maybe it’ll make a blooper real someday
